Is tandem paragliding safe? What you should know in Switzerland
The short answer: tandem flights in Switzerland are strictly regulated and you fly with a professional who only takes off when conditions are right. No air sport is free of risk, so here is what keeps it low.

Who is allowed to fly you
In Switzerland a pilot needs an official licence for two-seater flights before taking passengers. The exam follows the rules of the Swiss Hang Gliding Association (SHV) and has practical parts for solo flights and for two-seater flights. Every flight you book with us is operated by a licensed paragliding company from the region, named in your confirmation.
Insurance
According to the SHV, passenger liability insurance is mandatory for tandem pilots. The paragliding company that flies you holds the insurance required by law. We also recommend your own accident insurance, as for any holiday activity.

The weather decides, not the schedule
Your pilot checks wind and weather on the day and only flies when it is safe. If the flight is cancelled because of the weather, you rebook or get a full refund. You never pay for a flight that does not happen.
What you can do yourself
- Give the real weight of every passenger when you book. The pilot chooses the equipment by weight.
- Tell us about health issues, for example back or heart problems, or a pregnancy. If in doubt, ask your doctor before you book.
- Wear sturdy shoes. At take-off you run a few steps.
- Listen to your pilot at take-off and landing. The briefing takes a few minutes and covers everything.
Nervous? That is normal
You need no experience, the pilot does the flying. Tell your pilot if you are nervous and ask for a calm flight without spirals.
